Karen Talmage - Parish Secretary

I have lived in Greenhills since 1952.  As a child I attended Our Lady of the Rosary School.  I celebrated my First Communion in the basement of the school (which was the church at that time.)   In the early 50’s there were over 40 children in a classroom and the school didn’t have a second story.   During recess the girls and the boys were separated – the boys had the east side of the playground, the girls had the west side.  Each side of the playground had a drinking fountain.  The Religious Sisters of Mercy were our teachers and later were joined by many fine, dedicated lay teachers.  In 1959 the present church was built on a field where we would play kickball at recess.

We attended daily Mass (which was in Latin before Vatican II) and we would sing the Mass in Gregorian Chant before going to class each morning.
Many years have passed and my own children have attended school here, received their sacraments and built many strong and lasting friendships.   I became the parish secretary for OLR in 1988 and I love seeing and ministering to the folks I’ve known all my life.  The seeds for music ministry that were planted in my childhood at daily Mass come to fruition when I play guitar with the contemporary ensemble at the 4:45 Saturday liturgy.
